  2. Puppies - Little balls of fur and cuteness.
  3. The computer - What would life be like without computers?

  9. Postage Stamps - Thank about it, how could we send mail without these nifty little guys?
  10. Post-it notes - I don't how much time these things have saved me.
  11. Grass - Without it, the ground would just be dirt and mud.
  12. School - Yes, I did just type that, because we'd all be idiots without it.
  13. Tape - If there was no tape, I'd have to use glue, and that usually doesn't work well for me.
  14. YouTube - Free music when you're online, baby!
  15. Toilets - Without them, we'd - actually, I'm not going to go there.
  16. Hair spray - Or as I like to call it, hair glue.
  17. Curtains - They keep out the sun, and they look pretty (most of the time).
  18. Starbucks - Must I really elaborate?
  19. Guy gym shorts - Because girl gym shorts don't have pockets.
  20. Hole punchers - Cool little circular razor blades.
  21. Holidays - Like Thanksgiving! (Yeah, that was pretty darn cheesy)
  22. The internet - Yes, it has a whole lot of bad things, but there's some pretty good stuff there, too.
  23. My bed - Ohhhhh, nice toasty covers!
  24. Grits - My meaning is twofold: The food and Girls Raised In The South.
  25. Plastic spiders - Not a Christmas recipe, or a Thanksgiving one, but one for an April Fool's joke!
  26. Purple - Two people have commented to me that I should put that one here.
  27. Cameras - A box of memories and beautiful pictures.
  28. Babies - Awesome little mini people.
  29. My Bible - Absolutely the most gorgeous book I've ever laid eyes on.
  30. Colored paper - That way you don't have to use up all of the ink to make your paper pretty!
  31. Calculators - I'd be so lost without one.
  32. The NYC/NYE ball - That thing that drops in times square every year. (NYE - New Year's Eve)
  33. Calendars - Although they are full of squares (love you, Jessie), I don't know what I'd do without one.

  42. Stickers - You can never be too old to like stickers.
  43. Highlighters - It makes homework a lot less boring sometimes.
  44. Toothpaste -  I don't only use it for my teeth, either.
  45. Face wash - You go to bed feeling clean whether you took a shower or not.
  46. The clock in the bottom right corner of the computer - So stinkin' handy!
  47. Snow - I wish there was a little more in Georgia.
  48. Snail mail - so much more meaningful sometimes (unless it's just a bill of a magazine).
  49. The word schnizzle - *dadgumit, blogger, it is too a word* A great alternative to an expletive.
  50. Polka dots - A long as they aren't all the same color.
Woohoo!! 50 things! And I still have almost two weeks to finish!!

~Caroline

P.S. About #44 - I swear, it works better than soap. The stuff will get rid of almost anything. Fingerprints on CD's, crayon marks on the outside of notebooks, ink off your hand that the soap won't get off...(all of these things have been proven). It's the one and only wonder cleaner that you can buy in 42 different flavors!

Linguini's Car Repair, Part 2

Two pairs of widely-opened eyes took in the scene in front of them.  There were the two cars, of course.  One was a sleek, black Cadillac.  The other was an average-looking, dark-colored car.  Standing around the cars were three men.  One of the men looked to be several inches shorter then the other two.  He was bald and wore a ring on his pinkie finger.
“Momma, is that a diamond ring on that guy’s hand?”
“I guess so.  It keeps reflecting a light from somewhere.”
The man was smoking something.  It was too dark to tell what it was, though.  The second man was average height with a head full of dark, slicked-back hair.  When he turned his head, Carrie shuddered.  His sinister eyes were as black as coal.  For a split second, Carrie could have sworn that he was looking straight at her.  She turned her head away.  When she looked back toward to group, the man had turned his head.  He was towering over the third man.  As much as a man could tower over someone a half of a foot taller than he.  Carrie giggled at the sight.  The third man was obviously taller than the others, even while straining under the weight of the box.  He was not nearly as nicely dressed as the other two men who were wearing expensive-looking suits.  The third man was wearing dark jeans and a tight black shirt.  His muscles bulged under the sleeves of his shirt.  It seemed obvious that the shiny, black car belonged to the short man and the less impressive car was the third man’s car.  It turned out that the box was being taken from the Cadillac to the other car.
“It’s a box of drugs, I just know it is.”  Carrie’s mom didn’t stop looking out the window.
“Which is why it says ‘Linguini’s Car Repair’ on the side, right?”
“Oh, shush, I bet it’s just a cover-up.  That way no one thinks that it’s drugs.”
“Oh, brother.  I’m going to say hello to them and ask what’s in the box.”  Carrie straightened up and turned to the door.
“No!  Even if they weren’t the mafia, which, I must admit, they probably aren’t, I would never let you go out by yourself to meet three men who are strangers.”
“Well, then you can come with me.”  Carrie turned on the light.
“Oh, I don’t think so, young lady.  I wouldn’t provide protection in the least from just that guy in the jeans alone.  Now if it were just the little short guy alone, that wouldn’t be much of a problem unless he had a gun.  Anyway, there is no way I’m going out there.”
At that moment, there was a knock on the door.  Carrie headed to the stairs.
“You’re not opening that door without me there, Carrie.”
“But you just said that you wouldn’t be any protection.  What difference would it make if you were there?”  Carrie continued down the hall.
The knock sounded once again.  Carrie’s mom ran to catch up.  The two arrived at the door at the same time.  Carrie reached for the doorknob and turned it.  The door swung open.  There stood the man in the jeans.  Carrie and her mom froze.

Linguini's Car Repair, Part 1

I wrote a paper about my mom, and I thought maybe you readers would enjoy reading. I'm only putting the beginning on right now, so you have to wait for the end. Mwahaha!!!!

Ten-year-old Carrie looked up sleepily from her homework.  She slowly stood up, stretched, and peered out the window.
“Momma, the mafia’s here again!” she shouted out the bedroom door.
“I’ll be right there!  Turn the light off so they can’t see you,” came the muffled response.
Carrie flipped the lights off and returned to the window overlooking the small intersection in front of her house.  Their road had big, empty lots on the other side.  They were thick with trees and bushes, and the cross street passed right through.  That stretch of road was a bit spooky at night.  Every few weeks at dusk, two cars would stop near each other for a few minutes.  Ever since she had first discovered these strange occurrences, Carrie’s mom had been convinced that it was the mafia making drug deals.  Carrie’s room had a window that over-looked a little section of the road, and every time they saw the cars parked there, Carrie and her mom watched the proceedings of the “mafia.”
“Okay, what are they doing?”  Carrie’s mom closed the door to the room quietly.
“I don’t know.  What does the mafia usually do on dark streets at dusk?”
“Beats me.  Do you have any binoculars?  Maybe we can see what’s going on.”  Carrie’s mom strained to see down the road.  “Wait a minute, there’s a guy getting out of the one on the right.”
“No, I don’t have binoculars.  Even if I did, they probably wouldn’t help since it’s getting dark,” Carrie said.  “Well, I guess we could use a flashlight, too.”
“Oh, sure, they’ll never notice a blinding flashlight beam coming from a window in one of the houses, now will they?”
Carrie grinned sheepishly.  “I suppose you do have a point there.”
Carrie’s mom always insisted that they turned off the light so that the mafia couldn’t see the silhouettes in the window.  They both continued to look out the window curiously.  They stared for at least a minute.
“My eyes hurt, I want to keep doing my homework,” Carrie complained.
“Excuse me?  Are you okay?  Did you really just say that you want to do your homework?”
“Uh…yeah.  I did,” admitted Carrie.
“Well, you’re homework can wait this time.  I want to watch and see what happens.  Oh, look, he’s opening the trunk.”
“Who is?”
“I don’t know their names!” Carrie’s mom said.  “But it’s the one on the left.”
“What’s he taking out?”  Carrie asked.
“It looks like a big, heavy box.”  A gasp escaped Carrie’s mom’s mouth.  “I bet it’s the drugs!”

THANKSgiving, Part 1

This year, I'm going to put my mind to it and come up with 100 things I'm thankful for. I'll do it in parts, so here are the first few. (They're not in order of importance, just the order of when I think of them.)
  1. God - Ok, if they were in order of importance, this would still be #1.
  2. Puppies - Little balls of fur and cuteness.
  3. The computer - What would life be like without computers?
  4. Nail polish - Call me a girly girl, go ahead.
  5. Butterflies - The world would be so colorless without them.
  6. Music - I never feel at all lonely when I'm listening to music.
  7. Flowers - Close your eyes and take a big sniff.
  8. Bagels - Why on earth are bagels so darned good?
Lots more to come!!!

Come Again??

I love it when people jump into the conversation at weird points, and they only catch part of what's being talked about. Here are some funny ones:

(This is what's heard by the person. Explanations below.)
  1. "Maybe we can actually flush our toilet paper here."
  2. "Two pieces or water? *short pause* Oh, toilet!"
  3. "I hate blood!"
  4. Two good friends (a guy and a girl) who are not boyfriend-girlfriend. Guy: "...I'd like to make tonight as memorable as I can."  Girl: *breathlessly* "Oh, so would I."
Explanations:
  1. I was on road trip with some friends and we stopped to go to the bathroom. Little did we know that the gas station must have had a bad septic system. The sign inside the bathroom said "Please throw your toilet paper in the garbage can. Thank you." It was evident that everyone had been doing so, too. I bet that trash hadn't been emptied all day. The quote was said when driving by a different gas station.
  2. I was reading the instructions on how to install a toilet. They were all in Spanish, so I decided to read that part aloud. I said "I wonder what toilet is in Spanish." Skip forward a bit, after more conversation, and I found a word that would make sense to mean "toilet." I said the word along with "Maybe that's it." Sarah: The quote above.
  3. This one isn't that weird, but I walked in a conversation to that quote. I don't think it really needs an explanation.
  4. The guy (let's call him Joe) was helping the girl (we'll call her Jane) run lines for a callback audition for The Music Man. Someone walked up to the conversation, not realizing that they were practicing lines. I laughed for a while after that.
You can definitely expect more of these.
